Professional Technician II

The Professional Technician II will work closely with researchers providing administrative support for select agents program and associated BSL 3 and 2 laboratories and equipment. Responsibilities include: support for security and access control; support for select agent inventory; preparing quarterly inventory reports for select agents and controlled substances; shipping and receiving select agents and controlled substances; providing visitor training; escorting visitors and maintenance contractors; maintaining visitor logs; coordinating and scheduling regular and emergency facility and equipment cleaning, maintenance, and decontamination; ensuring adequate PPE and lab supplies; maintaining MSDS; coordinating emergency and incident response; assisting with annual recommissioning; supporting and assisting with required drills and exercises; providing animal husbandry support; maintaining records for shared building equipment; maintaining select agent spill kits; maintaining select agent transfer logs; coordinating FD-961 and fingerprint process; maintaining, updating and revising laboratory SOPs and manuals to reflect best practices.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in biological sciences - biology, chemistry, microbiology; biochemistry; bioengineering or a related field with 5 years of relevant research experience or equivalent. Significant experience with microbiological and/or biomedical laboratory research.
Preferred Qualifications: Doctoral degree in biology, chemistry or microbiology; experience in using or handling select agents; and knowledge of select agents regulations.
